Buying a boat can be an exciting but overwhelming experience. There are hundreds of different available makes, models, and boat types to choose from, and deciding which one is best for your needs can be difficult. At Hava Style Recreation, we want our customers to be as well informed as possible. That’s why we’ve created this helpful boat buying guide.

Create A Budget

Start by creating a budget. Having a budget will serve two important functions. First, it will help you keep track of extra expenses like maintenance, insurance, registration fees, fuel costs, and equipment costs. Second, it will create a set price limit so that you don’t feel tempted to buy something outside of your affordability range.

How Will You Use The Boat?

One of the main factors determining which type of boat is right for you is how you plan to actually use the vessel. Some boats, such as wake boats and fishing boats, are designed for specific activities and come with several features that will help enhance the experience. Other boat types, such as pontoons and bowrider boats, are designed more for general usage. These boats don’t outshine specialized vessels when it comes to a particular niche, but they are useful for families that want a boat that can do a bit of everything.

How Large of a Boat Do You Want?

Bigger vessels cost more, but have more room for people and gear. Larger vessels are also more difficult/expensive to transport and store. Avoid overspending on a boat, and try to keep practicality in mind when you shop.

What Hull Shape Suits Your Needs?

Boat hulls come in a few different shapes, but for simplicity’s sake we’ll focus on flat bottomed and v-shaped hills. Flat-bottomed boats are great for boating in shallow waters. However, they don’t provide much stability when things get choppy. V-shaped hulls provide much needed stability when traveling through deeper water. Choose whichever option is best suited to the areas that you plan to visit.
