A pest infestation can make it difficult to enjoy your hard-earned RV camping trip. Pest can damage your camper in all sorts of small ways, such as leaving droppings, chewing on wires, and creating nests. Luckily, this guide from the experts at Hava Style Recreational can help you get rid of any pest that decides to invade your camper.

Pest Prevention

One way to deter pests from making their home in your camper is through regular cleanings. Crumbs and food spills left on their own for too long can create a smell. This smell, even if it's too faint for humans to detect, tells pests that your camper is a place where food is plentiful. By cleaning up these food traces as soon as you can, you make your camper that much less appealing to pests. Don’t forget to store any dry food you have on hand in airtight containers as well!

Rodents

Rodents like rats and mice are surprisingly good at squeezing into tiny holes in your camper’s frame. Regularly inspect your camper’s exterior and plug any holes that you find. If the rodents are already inside your camper, you can use traps/poison to deal with them.

Insects

Different insects require different approaches. Roaches, for example, are vulnerable to insecticides. Of course, these substances are often just as harmful to people and pets as they are to insects, so use them carefully. Ants are tricky because they tend to make colonies. Instead of just squashing any ants you see, follow them back to the source and deal with them from there. One useful strategy is to spray soapy water on the surfaces the ants frequent and wipe them down to remove the chemical “trails” that these insects use to navigate. Bees and wasps also tend to make their home in your camper, but they’re much tricker to remove since they can sting. You may even need to call in the help of a professional exterminator.
